Welcome

CENTRA-2016 is the inaugural meeting of the CENTRA framework for international Collaborations to ENable TRansnational cyberinfrastructure Applications. On behalf of all the CENTRA organizers and supporters, we welcome all attendees of CENTRA-2016 to Taipei and Taichung, Taiwan, for four days of productive technical discussions, collaborative work, professional networking and planning for continued partnership on research and development activities. The founding members of CENTRA are the Center of Excellence for Cyber-Enablement of Applications (CECEA) of the National Center for High-Performance Computing (NCHC) with support from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of Taiwan, the Advanced Computing and Information Systems (ACIS) laboratory of the University of Florida with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the USA, and the ASEAN International Virtual Organization (IVO) preparatory meeting funded by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technologies (NICT) of Japan. As of the time of this writing, more than sixty attendees are expected to participate in CENTRA-2016, including researchers from Japan, Taiwan and the USA, as well as invited participants from Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore. CENTRA is off to a great start with the CENTRA-2016 meeting and is already positioned for additional partnerships with interested institutions in multiple countries. We are sure we will look back at the CENTRA-2016 meeting as the one where everything started and we are delighted to know that you are a part of it. Once again, welcome to CENTRA-2016 – we wish you a productive meeting and remind you to also enjoy the Saturday cultural activity where you can continue to discuss technical ideas in an informal setting, extend your professional network and learn about our friendly host country, Taiwan.
