About SEAIP

The continuing growth of the IT industry in East and Southeast Asia has had an immense impact on not only the regional but the global economy as well. While IT is by nature collaborative, Taiwan has maintained a strong presence in high-performance computing and networking. Hence, the “Southeast Asia International Joint Research and Collaboration Program in High-Performance Computing Applications and Networking Technology,” held by NCHC and the acronym of which is SEAIP, aims to promote the technological exchange among countries of the Asia-Pacific region, and discuss the research collaboration that is visionary and has regional features in order to advance the technological development in Southeast Asia.

Big data is another important issue that NCHC has aimed to develop. As computer technologies are fully intertwined with people’s lives, it is no news that big data has been applied to science, medical care, national defense, earth system science, etc. Thus, the core value and importance of big data along with the commercial possibilities cannot be ignored. Since NCHC holds a membership in PRAMGA, the researchers from our center annually attend the PRAGMA workshops which take place twice a year and focus on the applications of grid technologies to handle big data. On December 4 to 8, 2017, NCHC and PRAGMA organized the first big data workshop, 2017 Big Data Infrastructure Workshop – Expedition on the Network Science Landscape, and invited renowned scholars from Japan, Europe, the United Sates, and Southeast Asia. While discussing the data sharing and collecting, this workshop has helped to enhance the interactions between leading institutions in the US and those around East and Southeast Asia.

SEAIP has been an important event for NCHC as well. Through this program, NCHC has been able to collaborate with international organizations, which allows us to form partnerships with some of the finest research institutes and grants our researchers the opportunity to work with prominent scientists from Europe, Japan, and the United States. In this case, NCHC has invited member states of ASCA (Association for Science Cooperation in Asia) that have influential research institutes and units with regard to high-performance computing and networking to join SEAIP. SEAIP will generically focus on the development of high-performance computing and networking. Since large-scale projects have come into prominence globally, SEAIP specifically dwell upon those projects and the scientific computing and application, as well as the applications of grid computing and high-speed fiber-optic network. SEAIP takes places annually and provides one-week courses for the member countries of aforementioned international organizations and further the courses to other important research institutes and countries. The courses are advanced and aims for training technology policy superintendents regarding information networking. In addition, NCHC has a long-term plan to strike a balance between research and education, and strengthen and organize the exchange and communication between Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries.
